The Makurdi Modern Market, one of the biggest commercial hubs in Benue State, is gradually descending into a deplorable state, raising serious concerns among traders and residents.

In a strongly worded post that has stirred public discourse, Prince Adams Blaise Oyih highlighted the worsening environmental and infrastructural challenges facing the market. According to the post, heaps of refuse dumped along the market fence have now spread across more than half of the major access road serving as the primary route in and out of the market.

The situation has raised serious questions about the effectiveness of market authorities and environmental officials in managing waste disposal and maintaining basic sanitation standards. The post described the deteriorating condition as no longer just an issue of untidiness, but a growing public health risk, a traffic nightmare, and a major embarrassment to the state.

Prince Adams Blaise Oyih pointed out several critical problems, including deep potholes, gullies, poor sanitation, blocked access roads, and unchecked waste disposal, all of which point to apparent negligence within the system. He stressed that those responsible for the maintenance of the market must be held accountable.

The post warned that if urgent action is not taken, the situation could soon make it difficult for traders and customers to even drive into or out of the market, potentially crippling commercial activities in one of Makurdi’s most important economic centers.
