At least four people were killed and one person injured in a deadly early-morning raid by suspected armed herders on Agber-Chicha village.
The attack occurred around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, when the assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents. Security operatives responded swiftly to distress calls, evacuating the bodies to a nearby hospital and rushing the injured victim to General Hospital, Gbajimba.
Tensions escalated shortly after the assault when grieving relatives reportedly launched a reprisal attack on a nearby herders’ settlement in Imande, killing about 20 cattle in retaliation.
A security source who confirmed the incident said, “Our officers arrived promptly, but locals had already retaliated. The situation remains tense.”
The latest violence underscores the persistent clashes between herders and farming communities in Benue State and has once again highlighted the urgent need for strengthened security measures in rural areas to prevent further escalation.
