Zamfara International Airport Receives First Aircraft in Historic Milestone, handled by a Benue-born

Zamfara State has achieved a significant aviation breakthrough as its international airport successfully received its first aircraft landing, marking a long-awaited milestone decades after the facility’s initial establishment.

The historic event involved a Challenger 604 aircraft with registration 5N-FGZ, belonging to the Federal Government fleet, which touched down smoothly at the airport. The landing signals the operational readiness of the facility and opens the door for increased air connectivity in the state.

The airport project was initiated under Governor Dauda Lawal and completed within his first three years in office, bringing an end to prolonged periods of inactivity and stalled progress. The construction and supervision were handled by JBI Tech Consult Limited, an aviation firm led by Benue-born air traffic engineer Begha Inyamkume.

Officials hailed the first landing as a major step toward enhancing air travel access, boosting economic activity, and attracting investment to Zamfara State. The achievement is expected to improve transportation links, facilitate movement of people and goods, and support broader development goals in the region.

The airport is set to host the Vice President on Tuesday during a scheduled political event involving the governor, further underscoring its readiness for high-profile operations.
