The incident, which occurred on the morning of April 3, 2026, has sparked concern over safety practices and the use of minors in hazardous tasks.
Electricity-related accidents remain a recurring issue in parts of Nigeria, often linked to poor safety enforcement and informal repair practices. Distribution companies are expected to follow strict operational guidelines to prevent such incidents.
According to eyewitness accounts, the boy was asked to help pick up a partially connected cable from the ground so it could be reconnected. During the process, he reportedly came into contact with a live wire and was electrocuted. He was said to have died on the spot. The identity of the boy and the personnel involved has not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.
Residents in the area have expressed shock and anger, questioning why a minor was involved in such a dangerous activity. Some community members are calling for a thorough investigation and accountability from the electricity distribution company.
