A sudden and powerful windstorm swept through Oju Local Government Area of Benue State on Saturday, momentarily halting a massive solidarity march organised in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The event, which drew an estimated 10,000 participants, was intended to showcase strong grassroots backing for the federal and state leadership. Attendees had gathered under canopies and around rows of chairs when the fierce gusts struck, scattering tents, upending seating arrangements, and sending lightweight items flying across the venue. The unexpected disruption triggered brief panic among some participants as people scrambled to secure belongings and find cover.

Despite the chaos, calm was quickly restored, and organisers swiftly rallied the crowd to resume proceedings. Supporters regrouped, the programme continued without further interruption, and the march successfully concluded as planned.

Event coordinators described the incident as a minor and temporary setback, emphasising that it did nothing to diminish the resolve of those present. One of the lead organisers stated, “We continued the programme after the situation stabilised. Our support is unwavering.”

Nevertheless, the swift recovery and continuation of activities underscored the participants’ commitment and the organisers’ ability to manage unforeseen challenges on the ground.

No injuries were reported from the incident, and the event ultimately reinforced the message of solidarity that the march set out to deliver.
