Elder Gwamile’s death came shortly after Aondona Dajoh announced his resignation in a personally signed letter dated August 24, 2025, titled “Resignation as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly.” In the letter, Dajoh cited his decision as being “in good faith and in the best interest of the state,” expressing gratitude to his colleagues for the opportunity to serve as “the first among equals.” He pledged to continue representing Gboko West State Constituency as a legislator, signaling his intent to remain active in public service despite stepping down.

The timing of Elder Gwamile’s collapse, reportedly occurring shortly after learning of his brother’s resignation, has fueled speculation about the emotional strain on the family. Social media reactions reflect a mix of grief and conjecture, with Evangelist Brahms Tor-Ikuan calling for peace through faith, while Ebony Black questioned whether the elder’s health or the speaker’s role played a factor in his demise. Agatha Igyor and others have added to the online dialogue, amplifying the sense of loss and curiosity.

In a swift response to Dajoh’s resignation, the Benue State House of Assembly convened an emergency plenary session on Sunday, electing Hon. Alfred Emberga of Makurdi North Constituency as the new Speaker. Sworn in by Deputy Speaker Lami Ogenyi, Emberga pledged to stabilize the House, mend divisions, and collaborate with Governor Alia to advance Benue’s development. The lifting of Emberga’s prior suspension, alongside the others, facilitated the transition, which he described as “a call to service” focused on unity and transparency.
