The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly refuted claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Senator David Mark, that over 10,000 PDP members in Agatu have defected to their party. The PDP labeled the assertion as a “deliberate fabrication” and an affront to the intelligence of Agatu residents.

In a statement released on Thursday, PDP State Publicity Secretary Tim Nyor challenged the credibility of the ADC’s claim, pointing to the 2023 election results as evidence of the PDP’s dominance in Agatu. The PDP secured 14,936 votes in the local government area, significantly outperforming the All Progressives Congress (APC), which garnered 5,956 votes. Nyor questioned how an “infant party” like the ADC could claim to have swayed approximately 75% of PDP’s voter base in the region.
“This is yet another fallacy in a series of fabrications by a party currently struggling with internal wranglings and disputes over its own structures,” Nyor stated, dismissing the ADC’s claim as baseless.
The PDP called on its supporters to disregard the “spurious assertions” and remain committed to strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party emphasized its deep-rooted presence and continued popularity in Agatu and across Benue State, citing its strong grassroots network and history of service delivery.
As political tensions rise in the state, the PDP reiterated its position as the “party of choice” for the people of Agatu, urging unity and focus among its members to maintain its dominance in the region.
