Jo-Lewis Obeka, PhD, has declared his intention to contest for the Igede Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in 2027, promising to deliver the dividends of democracy and quality representation that have long eluded the people.
Speaking to journalists in Makurdi shortly after consultations with the apex Igede socio-cultural organisation, Omi Ny’Igede, Obeka emphasized that his candidacy is driven by a deep commitment to transformative leadership.
“With me, Igede can have a better representation at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, come 2027,” he stated. “I will ensure the dividends of democracy that have eluded the people are trickled down to the grassroots through purposeful legislation, empowerment programmes, and visible projects.”
Obeka, who described quality representation as his watchword, lamented the perceived marginalisation of Igede interests at the national level and pledged to prioritise infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth employment, and agricultural development if elected.
The aspirant’s engagement with Omi Ny’Igede is seen as a strategic move to secure broad-based support from the Igede socio-cultural leadership ahead of party primaries. Observers note that his message of inclusive governance and accountability resonated strongly during the closed-door meeting.
While Obeka is yet to formally declare his party platform, political watchers in Benue South believe his entry could reshape the contest in Igede Federal Constituency, which has long been a battleground for aspirants seeking to address long-standing developmental gaps.
No other aspirants have publicly responded to Obeka’s declaration at the time of this report.
