MOAU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alabar Holds Strategic Meeting with Former VCs, Seeks Guidance for Institutional Growth

The Vice-Chancellor of Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAU), Makurdi, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, has held a landmark consultative meeting with former Vice-Chancellors of the institution to draw on their collective experience for stronger leadership continuity and accelerated development.

The session, convened at the Vice-Chancellor’s office on February 23, 2026, provided a platform for open reflections on the university’s historical achievements, persistent challenges, and strategic priorities moving forward. Professor Alabar described the engagement as a deliberate effort to harness the institutional memory and wisdom of past leaders in order to reinforce academic excellence, upgrade infrastructure, improve administrative efficiency, and ensure long-term stability.

He emphasized that universities achieve sustained progress when successive administrations deliberately build upon established foundations rather than starting anew. “An open and consultative leadership style,” he noted, “is essential to guide MOAU toward greater heights in teaching, research, and community service.”

The former Vice-Chancellors present commended the initiative as a rare and commendable display of humility and inclusive governance. They praised Professor Alabar’s approach and willingly shared valuable lessons from their tenures, offering practical suggestions on key areas including enhanced student welfare and support services, improved staff motivation and welfare, increased research productivity, stronger industry and international partnerships, and closer collaboration with government agencies and development partners.

Attending the meeting were Professor Akase Paul Sorkaa (2005–2010), Professor Charity Ashimemem Angya, OON (2010–2015), Professor Msugh Moses Kembe (2015–2020), Professor Emmanuel Ayananagarumumun Kenen (immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor), and others. Professor Tor Joe-Iorapuu (2020–2025) sent his apologies but conveyed goodwill and support for the engagement.

Professor Alabar reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to collaborative leadership, expressing strong confidence that tapping into the collective insight of past helmsmen would position MOAU to continue rising as a beacon of quality education in Benue State and across Nigeria.

The meeting has been widely viewed as a positive step toward bridging generational leadership gaps in Nigerian tertiary institutions, where institutional continuity and mentorship from predecessors can significantly enhance performance and legacy-building.
