In a welcome development for creatives working in Benin City’s political scene, Hon. Haakyav Tombu Peter has officially cleared his outstanding payment to graphic designer Ortyom Gabriel Chigh. The settlement, which took place today, 8th December 2025, brings an end to a short but highly public dispute that had raised eyebrows in local creative and political circles.

According to Benue Info-Pedia, the payment was made in full following Chigh’s earlier public complaint about unpaid work on campaign materials. The designer had designed promotional content for Hon. Tombu Peter, which was promptly deployed during the politician’s campaign activities. When payment was delayed, Chigh took to social media to voice his frustration, an action that quickly gained traction and sparked conversations about the treatment of creative professionals by political figures.

Speaking on the resolution, sources close to the matter confirmed that Hon. Tombu honored the original agreement, and Ortyom Gabriel Chigh has since expressed relief and satisfaction with the outcome.

The incident, though brief, served as a reminder of the challenges many freelancers and creatives face when working with high-profile clients, particularly in politics, where timelines are short and budgets can sometimes be fluid. It also highlighted a growing willingness among young creatives in Edo and beyond to speak out when professional agreements are not honored.

Today’s resolution is being celebrated by many in the creative community as a small but meaningful victory, one that sends a clear message: creative work has value, and that value must be respected, regardless of who the client is.
