In a bold effort to bridge the persistent housing deficit in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has announced the state government’s takeover of housing units constructed under the National Housing Programme by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

The governor personally inspected the facilities at Tse Ukpahar, behind Welfare Quarters in Makurdi, where over 116 housing units have been built by the federal government. During the visit on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, Governor Alia emphasized his administration’s firm commitment to ensuring every resident of Benue has access to decent and affordable housing.

To further support accessibility, the state government is collaborating with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to facilitate mortgage options. These arrangements will enable public and civil servants, along with other eligible residents, to secure the homes through structured financing once they are placed on sale.

The takeover forms part of a broader strategy to revive stalled or underutilized federal housing projects across the state, stimulate local economic activity, and generate employment opportunities for residents during the completion phase and beyond.
