In a deeply moving display of compassion, Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has reached into the hearts of Benue’s most vulnerable, showering orphans and struggling children with love and essential support just days before Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. This touching initiative, marked by generous donations of food and non-food items, has brought tears of joy to the Children of Mary Orphanage and Motherless Baby Home in Otukpo, the NKST Orphanage at Mkar in Gboko, with promises of hope extending to more orphanage homes across the state.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Internal Affairs and Special Services, Mr. Paul Okoh, the governor’s delegation arrived with bags of rice, cartons of noodles and biscuits, sanitary pads, diapers, baby wipes, body creams, footwear, clothing, and even a cow for each home—symbols of care that warmed the souls of the children. With emotion in his voice, Mr. Okoh shared that this outpouring stems from Governor Alia’s unwavering compassion, a leader who listens to the cries of the poor and insists that independence celebrations embrace the downtrodden beyond Makurdi’s borders. He called for sustained prayers to uplift this administration’s noble mission.

The impact was palpable. Pastor Terlanga Nongo of the NKST Humanitarian Foundation, with gratitude shining in his eyes, praised Governor Alia as “a man of his word,” recounting how the governor’s earlier gifts—a classroom block, a borehole with an overhead tank, and the promise of a clinic—have transformed lives. “We are seeing results in infrastructure, governance, and support to the less privileged,” Pastor Terlanga said, his voice trembling with hope. “Each time you come, you come in a bigger way. We are grateful and remain prayerful for this government.”

At the Children of Mary Orphanage, Matron Mrs. Rosemary Oganyi’s voice broke with emotion as she expressed deep gratitude for the governor’s kindness. “These children, once forgotten, now feel seen,” she said, her words a testament to the healing power of this gesture. The donations are more than items—they are lifelines, offering dignity and a brighter future to the fatherless, motherless, and defenseless.
