Governor Alia Strengthens Ties for Benue’s Future

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has been making significant strides in fostering collaboration and development through a series of high-level engagements in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Dubbed the “Abuja-Benue Handshake,” these initiatives reflect a clear vision of connecting Benue to the National Grid of Growth while addressing key priorities for the state’s citizens.

In a productive meeting with the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Dr. Abba Aliyu, in Abuja, Governor Alia focused on deepening collaboration to accelerate Benue State’s renewable energy drive. The discussions emphasized expanding rural electrification projects to underserved communities. Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring reliable and sustainable power for every part of Benue, highlighting electricity’s role in improving livelihoods, boosting small businesses, and stimulating local economic growth. He stressed that his government will continue to pursue partnerships that deliver practical results for the people.

Governor Alia’s engagements also showcased his dedication to governance reforms and inclusive representation. At the 6th Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), he joined other NGF members in supporting a bill seeking reserved seats for women in Nigeria’s legislature. The proposed amendment aims to create special constituencies exclusively contested by women to enhance female representation at both national and state levels. Describing the initiative as a progressive step toward inclusive governance, Governor Alia reiterated Benue’s commitment to gender equality and balanced leadership. The NGF also commended the Federal Government’s fiscal policies and resolved to work with relevant agencies to strengthen the economy and address security challenges across the country.

The governor concluded his series of engagements with a visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe G. Yilwatda. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss party affairs, review ongoing developments in Benue State, and strengthen coordination between the state government and the national leadership of the party. During the discussion, Governor Alia briefed the National Chairman on progress made in implementing key government initiatives and reaffirmed his commitment to transparent and people-focused governance. He also assured that Benue will remain a strong pillar of the APC’s development vision.

In another engagement, Governor Alia paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma. Their meeting centered on strengthening collaboration among APC governors, promoting knowledge exchange, and aligning development strategies across states. The discussion also touched on shared priorities such as security, economic growth, and governance reforms within the APC-led administration. Governor Alia reiterated Benue State’s readiness to work closely with fellow governors to ensure policies and programs at the state level complement the broader national development agenda.
