Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Saturday 22nd November 2025 fulfilled a long-standing promise by presenting a brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep to the Tor Jechira II, His Royal Highness Chief Edward Ujege, paramount ruler of the Sankera axis.
The handover, which took place at the Government House in Makurdi, was witnessed by top government functionaries led by the Chief of Staff, Barr. Moses Atagher, commissioners, special advisers, and a large crowd of traditional title holders and well-wishers from the Jechira traditional council.
Governor Alia described the presentation as a modest token of appreciation to the royal father for his unwavering support for the administration and his tireless efforts in promoting peace across the Sankera region. “This vehicle is to assist His Royal Highness in discharging his traditional and official responsibilities more effectively,” the governor said, adding that traditional institutions remain critical partners in the quest for good governance and lasting peace in Benue State.
In his response, Tor Jechira II expressed profound gratitude to Governor Alia, describing the gift as a demonstration of the governor’s deep respect for Tiv culture and traditional leadership. He pledged continued loyalty and prayed for divine wisdom upon the Alia administration.
The colourful event was enlivened by cultural troupes and praises from palace chiefs who hailed the governor’s gesture as rare and timely. Many attendees noted that the presentation aligns with Governor Alia’s pattern of recognising and empowering traditional rulers since he assumed office.
With this latest gift, the Alia administration has further strengthened its bond with the traditional institution, sending a clear message that the stool of the Tor Tiv and all paramount rulers across the state remain highly valued partners in the journey towards a greater Benue.
