In a surprising turn of events in Benue State politics, Governor Hyacinth Alia has reportedly directed the State House of Assembly to extend the suspension of the immediate past Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, from three months to six months. The original suspension was set to expire on November 26, 2025, but according to a widely circulated social media post, the governor has intervened to prolong the measure.
The post, which has been making rounds on Facebook, claims that Governor Alia not only extended Dajoh’s suspension but also instructed the redeployment of three key figures associated with the Benue State House of Assembly Commission. These include Mr. Bulya, Mr. Ochakpa, and a former clerk who currently serves as the Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Hwande. The directive reportedly mandates their removal from the Assembly premises.
However, the plot thickens. When contacted for clarification, the current Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga, stated that he was completely unaware of any such developments. This denial raises serious questions about the authenticity of the governor’s alleged instructions and whether proper legislative protocols were followed.
The suspension of Aondona Dajoh has been a contentious issue in Benue politics, with factions within the Assembly and the ruling party at odds over leadership and accountability. Extending the suspension without the Speaker’s knowledge—if true—could signal deeper rifts within the state’s political structure and potentially breach constitutional procedures governing the legislature.
As of now, neither the governor’s office nor the Benue State House of Assembly has issued an official statement confirming or denying the claims. Political observers are watching closely, as this development could escalate into a full-blown leadership crisis in the state.
Details are still emerging, and the public awaits official clarification. One thing is certain: Benue State’s political landscape remains as unpredictable as ever.
