A frustrated commuter, Torbunde Samuel, has publicly called out Benue Links Nigeria Limited over the recurring mechanical breakdowns plaguing its buses, particularly on the busy Makurdi to Katsina-Ala route, describing the situation as both disturbing and embarrassing for passengers.

In a detailed message directed to the company’s General Manager, Mr. Fananafa, Samuel recounted his recent ordeal, explaining that he was left stranded for more than five hours after the bus he was traveling in suffered a breakdown mid-journey. The incident, he said, is far from isolated, with similar failures becoming a regular occurrence on this key intercity corridor.

Benue Links, a state-owned transport company, operates services connecting various parts of Benue State and neighboring regions, providing an essential lifeline for commuters, traders, and travelers. However, passengers have increasingly voiced complaints about unreliable vehicles, frequent breakdowns, and long delays that disrupt travel plans and expose users to risks along highways.

Samuel highlighted that the problem appears especially pronounced on the Makurdi–Katsina-Ala axis, raising serious questions about the roadworthiness and maintenance standards of the buses assigned to the route. “It is both disturbing and embarrassing that passengers are often stranded by the roadside,” he stated. “Today, I am a victim, having been stuck for over five hours.”

He urged the management to treat the matter with urgency, recommending immediate steps such as replacing faulty vehicles and improving routine maintenance to restore reliability and passenger confidence. Samuel emphasized that continued neglect of these issues not only inconveniences commuters but also undermines public trust in the state-owned service.

The complaint has drawn attention online, with many residents echoing similar experiences and calling for accountability from the transport company. As of the time of this report, Benue Links Nigeria Limited had not issued an official response or statement addressing the concerns raised by Samuel or the broader pattern of vehicle failures.
