The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, on December 15, 2025, hosted a live media tour at the agency’s headquarters in Makurdi to highlight the significant strides made over the past two years in addressing displacement and humanitarian challenges across the state.
Led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Broadcast Media, Hon. Ahoho Terungwa, the tour brought together representatives from various online television platforms and media influencers, including Ohitty TV/Radio, Alia TV Network, Alia Doo News Channel, Benue Spotlight TV, and Alia Voice TV, among others. The event was anchored by Comrade Aer Simeon and attended by key agency officials, including the Administrative Officer, Dr. Donald Kongbenda, and the Personal Assistant on Media to the Executive Secretary, Comrade Terfa Anar.
During the tour, Sir Iorpuu, who also serves as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, outlined BSEMA’s core mandate and detailed key interventions. He emphasized ongoing efforts beyond the consistent monthly distribution of food and non-food items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), noting several landmark projects supported by Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.
Highlights included the flag-off of a mega water treatment plant in Naka, Gwer-West Local Government Area with a capacity of 86 million litres per day, the construction of resettlement shelters in displaced communities, the establishment of a mega IDP farm at Tyomu, and micro-farming initiatives for displaced persons. Other notable achievements mentioned were a water project at Ortese in Guma Local Government Area, multiple boreholes across IDP communities, statewide profiling of IDPs, the setting up of a help desk at BSEMA headquarters, the completion of the ultra-modern Fr. Alia Conference Hall—described as one of the best new office blocks in Nigeria for humanitarian partners—and a power house equipped with a standby generator.
Sir Iorpuu commended Governor Alia for his unwavering support and commitment to making displacement challenges in Benue a thing of the past, while acknowledging the dedicated contributions of humanitarian organizations, donor partners, agencies, and individuals, with special mentions for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
The media team was also taken on a guided tour of the BSEMA warehouse to inspect relief materials procured for strategic distribution during the yuletide season. The event underscored the agency’s progress in providing sustainable solutions and enhancing emergency response capabilities, aligning with the governor’s agenda for durable development and improved welfare for vulnerable populations in Benue State.
