The Benue State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) held its State Congress, during which it affirmed its State Working Committee that will oversee the affairs of the party for the next four years. The Congress also ratified executives at the polling unit, ward, and local government levels.
While conducting the exercise, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Hon. Shola Ojoh, commended the leadership of the ADC in Benue State for the remarkable work done in positioning the party strongly within the state. He expressed confidence that, based on what he witnessed, the ADC is well-positioned to achieve victory in the forthcoming elections.
Hon. Ojoh, alongside the Committee Secretary, Mrs. Hassana Shaibu Dada, appreciated the people of Benue State for allowing members of the State Working Committee to emerge through a consensus arrangement. He noted that the process was devoid of contestation and disputes. He then asked stakeholders in agreement with the committee’s decisions to signify by saying “aye,” which was met with a resounding response, while there was no opposition when dissenting voices were called for.
He congratulated the newly affirmed executives and charged them to remain dedicated and adhere strictly to the party’s constitution.
In his remarks, the leader of the ADC in Benue State, Distinguished Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev, stated that the ADC is not a new party, but that the coalition within it is new. He explained that the tenure of the previous executives had expired, and with the confirmation of the new executives, work would commence immediately. He commended the Congress Committee for a job well done in ensuring a smooth and peaceful process. Senator Orker-Jev also advised party members and aspirants to conduct themselves with decorum and avoid using derogatory language that could create internal crises.
Rt. Comr. Alex Adum provided an update on the legal issues affecting the party at the national secretariat. He said that the APC and its mercenaries acted too late to disrupt the process, noting that the ADC had already progressed beyond their interference. According to him, there were attempts to delay the Congress to conflict with the INEC timetable, but fortunately, the electoral body had already approved the exercise. He added that within a few days, INEC would be compelled to recognize the executive led by Senator David Mark.
Earlier, the Chairman of MRMR, Hon. Chief Terngu Tsegba, delivered a welcome address, in which he warmly received party leaders, stakeholders, and delegates to the Congress. He commended members for their loyalty and steadfastness, noting that their commitment has continued to strengthen the party’s structure across the state. He also encouraged participants to remain united and focused as the ADC positions itself for greater success in future political engagements.
Responding on behalf of the State Working Committee, Hon. Samson Okwu appreciated the leadership of the party for providing a level playing field that enabled their emergence through a consensus arrangement. He assured that they would uphold the sanctity of the party and remain committed to protecting its ideals and principles.
In their separate goodwill messages, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly candidates expressed appreciation to the party leadership and faithful for the peaceful conduct of the Congress. They urged members to remain united and committed, expressing hope that the party would produce leaders capable of rescuing the state from APC misgovernance.
