Another Financial Scandal Alleged in Benue as BIRS Chairman Accused of Stealing ₦4 Billion

Social media activist Asom D Jerry has raised fresh allegations of financial misconduct against the Chairman of the Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mr. Joseph Kwaghghba.

In a Facebook post, Jerry claimed that the BIRS Chairman has allegedly stolen over ₦4 billion within one year. He described the situation as part of a broader pattern of abuse of office, financial malfeasance, and recklessness in the state government.

According to the post, available documents suggest the chairman amassed the funds to “settle himself” because he does not trust Governor Alia. The activist further alleged that the Benue State House of Assembly has invited the BIRS Chairman to appear before it over several “dirty deals” uncovered in the agency.

The post claims that one lawmaker alleged the chairman is attempting to blackmail the Assembly instead of facing the allegations. It also questioned why Governor Alia is allegedly supporting such activities at the BIRS.

As of now, there has been no official response from the BIRS Chairman or the state government regarding these serious allegations. The matter is expected to generate further attention as the House of Assembly probes the issue.
