A powerful open letter from human rights activist Ukan Kururgh has sparked widespread concern over alleged corruption and selective enforcement within the Nigeria Police Force in Benue State. Addressed to the Commissioner of Police, the letter highlights troubling incidents that have deepened public mistrust in law enforcement.

Kururgh begins by extending condolences to the Benue State Police Command for the tragic loss of officers killed by bandits and Fulani terrorist herdsmen in the Sankera axis. He prays for strength and peace for those affected, setting a tone of respect before delving into serious allegations.

The activist claims that following these attacks, police conducted widespread arrests, many of which involved innocent citizens. He points to specific concerns, including nighttime raids on certain hotels and establishments, while those owned by influential individuals were reportedly left untouched. This selective enforcement, Kururgh argues, fuels public skepticism.

A personal anecdote underscores his claims: a well-known Nollywood actor and friend of Kururgh was among those arrested. The actor reportedly secured his release by paying ₦50,000, while others were forced to pay even larger sums. This disparity raises questions about the fairness of modern policing practices.

In a call to action, Kururgh urges the Commissioner to restore public trust by sanitizing the ranks and dismantling rogue elements within the force. He emphasizes the need for courageous leadership, warning that silence in the face of abuse could define the Commissioner’s legacy. The activist plans to focus public attention on the Nigeria Police Force’s activities in Benue State this week, promising to share verifiable reports and testimonies to hold the office accountable.

“Let history remember that someone spoke,” Kururgh writes, adding a plea for justice to be made loud and clear. He concludes with a prayer for divine guidance, hoping the Commissioner will lead with wisdom, justice, and truth.

As the situation unfolds, the public awaits the Commissioner’s response to these grave allegations. The call for reform resonates as a critical step toward rebuilding trust in Benue State’s law enforcement.
