Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has issued a firm directive to members of the Benue State Revenue Reconciliation Committee, emphasizing zero tolerance for any acts that undermine the state’s development efforts through revenue leakages or obstruction.
In an address delivered during the committee’s general meeting held at the old banquet hall of the Government House in Makurdi on February 12, 2026, the governor reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the progress and future prosperity of Benue. Speaking directly to revenue mobilizers and reconciliation officers, he declared that his presence in office is solely for the good of the state and that “whatever it takes, Benue State must develop.”
Governor Alia stressed the importance of leaving lasting legacies for future generations, stating: “We must leave legacies for your children and your children’s children.” He positioned revenue generation as a critical pillar of that legacy, warning officials against becoming obstacles to advancement.
The governor was particularly pointed in his language regarding internal sabotage. “Don’t be a clog in the wheel of progress,” he said. He further warned that anyone who stands in the way of the state’s development and turns into what he described as a “conduit pipe, leaking the meagre resources we are supposed to put to use for the development of the state, will be thoroughly dealt with.”
The remarks come against the backdrop of the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve internal revenue generation, plug financial leakages, reconcile revenue accounts, and redirect recovered and properly mobilized funds toward critical infrastructure, healthcare, education, and other priority sectors.
Governor Alia’s address was broadcast and shared widely through Alia TV Network, where it resonated with many residents who have long expressed frustration over perceived inefficiencies and diversion of public funds in previous administrations. The message has been interpreted as both a motivational call to duty for genuine revenue workers and a clear signal of strict accountability for those who may engage in corrupt practices.
As the state continues to pursue aggressive revenue reforms and reconciliation exercises, the governor’s words serve as a reminder that the Alia administration views fiscal discipline and transparency as non-negotiable prerequisites for Benue’s renewal. The closing sentiment echoed across social media platforms: “Surely, Benue must be great again!!”
