The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has paid a strategic working visit to the Sole Administrator of Giza Development Area Council in Nasarawa State, Hon. Solomon Omaku, to strengthen collaboration in addressing security challenges along the Guma-Nasarawa border.
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation through improved intelligence sharing, stronger synergy between security agencies, and coordinated efforts to prevent criminal activities and protect residents in the border communities. Hon. Orwough stressed that insecurity cannot be tackled by one government or security agency alone, calling for joint efforts among neighbouring states, local governments, traditional institutions, and the people to achieve lasting peace.
During the visit, Hon. Orwough interacted with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), predominantly Tiv people who fled attacks in Guma and other communities. He expressed sympathy for their plight, assured them of government support, and urged them to remain hopeful, law-abiding, and united.
The chairman was accompanied by several officials, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Nasarawa State, Hon. Solomon Pevikya, and other government functionaries. He also inspected border communities with security personnel to assess ongoing operations.
The visit underscores efforts by local authorities to foster cross-border collaboration for improved security and the safe return of displaced persons.
