Benue State Welcomes Foreign Defence Attachés, Showcases Investment and Cultural Riches

In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Benue State Government on Monday, 13th July 2026, hosted a high-level delegation of foreign Defence Attachés and Advisers accredited to Nigeria, highlighting the state’s vast investment opportunities, rich cultural heritage, and economic potential.

Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode, who represented Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, received the delegation led by Major General Ojogbane Adegbe, Director of Foreign Liaison at the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), at the Old Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi. The courtesy call formed part of a geographical and cultural tour across Nigeria aimed at giving the envoys a deeper understanding of the country beyond Abuja.

Dr. Ode thanked the Defence Intelligence Agency for including Benue in the tour, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen international partnerships, deepen diplomatic relations, and attract investment. He emphasized Benue’s position as a peaceful state abundantly blessed with agricultural, mineral, and human resources, positioning it as not only the food basket of Nigeria but also of West Africa.

The Deputy Governor outlined key sectors ripe for investment, including agriculture, agribusiness, mining, manufacturing, tourism, renewable energy, healthcare, education, digital innovation, and more. He noted the Aliya administration’s efforts in improving infrastructure, enhancing security, ensuring transparent governance, and implementing investor-friendly policies to drive economic diversification, job creation, and tourism.

Major General Adegbe expressed appreciation to the Benue State Government for the warm reception and commended the strong collaboration between the state and security agencies, which has contributed to security successes. He explained that the tour was designed to expose the visitors to Nigeria’s diverse geography, culture, and economic realities, enabling better appreciation of the operational environment and fostering military and non-military cooperation.

The delegation was particularly impressed by Benue’s agricultural endowments. The visit culminated in a dinner featuring captivating cultural performances by the Benue State Arts and Culture Troupe, showcasing the state’s rich cultural diversity and hospitality.

The engagement is expected to open new avenues for collaboration between Nigeria’s Armed Forces, the Defence Intelligence Agency, and their foreign partners while promoting Benue as a prime destination for investment and cultural exchange.
