Nigerian music icon and Technical Adviser on Entertainment and Community Outreach to the Benue State Governor, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has condemned the recent killings in Benue South, declaring that the people can no longer remain passive in the face of continued attacks.
Speaking during a condolence visit to victims of the attacks in Otukpo-Nobi on Wednesday, the singer said the worsening insecurity had reached an unacceptable level and called for collective action to end the bloodshed. “Benue is home. When home hurts, we all feel it. Today is about standing together, listening, and reminding one another that hope is never lost,” he said.
Recalling his anti-violence song *Odiya*, 2Baba noted that the situation had changed from communal conflicts to attacks by external aggressors. “Back then, I sang a song titled *Odiya*, meaning ‘What happened?’ asking why we were killing ourselves. But this time, we are not the ones killing ourselves; they are the ones killing us. It is something that we will no longer fold our hands and watch. It is getting out of hand,” he stated.
The award-winning singer stressed that tackling the security challenge would require collective efforts rather than relying on one individual. “There is so much we can do. What has happened has happened, but going forward, we need to plan and strategise. By the grace of God, there will be a solution. It is not a one-man job. We need to put all hands on deck. I will use my voice to speak to my contacts,” he added.
As part of his support for the affected community, 2Baba donated ₦1 million to victims of the attack. “I may not have much today, but I will support you with one million naira,” he said. His visit comes amid renewed calls for stronger action to curb persistent attacks on communities in Benue State.
